It helps for many to see their physical self as one and their spiritual/soul self as another. Yet, the times we are in "forces" integration, and that is where the resistance and perceived pain/suffering comes in.
The physical self participates person to person, human to human, physical to physical. It sees through human eyes. It reacts to triggers, with emotions, according to a though it the rational and thinking mind. It participates. It needs. It compromises, rationalizes, judges, fears and exists on a reality that it can see "out there" in the material & physical world.
The higher self/soul/spiritual being is one of pure energy/consciousness and is present in every moment. It observes, through the heart and it FEELs everything. It sees through the heart and the mind's eye. It visualizes and feels through sound. It is creative and has desires. It has no logic and transcends all that makes sense. It exists as one, with no separation. It is pure light and works to integrate here, now, into the physical.
Integration occurs as the dense, physical self attempts to raise in vibrational frequency. Yet the local mind interferes with this, so sleep is required to assist in this process.
The reality of the Light Being (Soul Self) is non-linear and sees no time. It does not measure and it could not care less about the details that the linear thinking human reality being participates in. The physical human cares about physical things. The soul has access to all infinite desires.
All will merge and integrate, in their own perception of "time", however they chose to experience "this". Those with more fight, will "suffer" according to the strength of the masculine energy within.
Loss is a perception of the logical, human mind. The soul sees simplification and how "things" interfere in the pure light vibrational frequency. One will fight to hold on and the other will choose to let go.
We are in the merging realities of opposites, the diss-illusion of duality and the Awakening to Remembering to that which has been forgotten. In order to remember, all things that represent separation must fall away. What is left is one unified body of consciousness. One of love and pure light.
